The primary education of history in North Korea is currently in a rather abbreviated state. Indeed there had been subjects named 'History(Ryeoksa)', or 'The Joseon History(Joseon Ryeoksa)' in the 1950s, but they were later closed at the end of the 1960s. Instead, a subject dealing with the events happened during Kim Il Seong's childhood was established in the previous subjects' place, and education of hero worship was reinforced. During the 1980s a subject designed to teach the childhood of Kim Jeong Il to the students was additionally established as well. So it would be safe to say that the primary education of history in North Korea is solely targeted at practically performing a series of hero(in this case, the national leaders) worship sessions, in the name of political and ideological education. The primary schools of South Korea, usually have the students learn about the general history of Korea and also the notable historical figures in the 6th grade subject titled 'Society', yet the primary schools of North Korea have the students learn about the childhood of Kim Il Soeng and Kim Jeong Il one hour per day since the beginning of the 1st grade till the completion of the 4th grade.
The reason for all this hero worship education regarding the North Korean national leaders in their history classes of primary schools is because North Korea needs to have their population believe that Kim Il Seong and Kim Jeong Il are indeed the most important and notable figures in the entire Korean history. As far as the students are concerned, the primary school period is usually considered to be the students' crucial learning phase in which the drive to understand and get to know historical figures generally hits the highest level. Practically, any form of education dedicated to a certain subject and performed in this phase can expect fully optimal results. And in this case, the students are expected to end up really believing that the 2 men were the finest ones in Korean history.
