'Bongsailbonsimungyeonrok' is the record of a travel to. The book was written by Cho Myeong-chae, an associate envoy who joined the tenth Mujin(戊辰) Korean delegation to Japan(Mujinsahaeng) during the late Joseon Dynasty. He lived in 1700-1763. Unlike other Korean envoys' records of travel to Japan, the travel record concerned did not list the names of those officials accompanying chief delegates, and only contained travel stories on Japan. The book also contained less poems exchanged with the Japanese and did not list the author. In this regard, the travel record has not been given much study despite its substantial literary value. This research reviewed the times' background and characteristics of the Mujin envoy delegation travel as well as literary elements featured in the travel experience, from the angle of its description system and content characteristics. As a result, the travel by the Korean delegation was conducted in the seemingly diplomatic form between the two nations; however, such efforts were also closely related to one country's intervention in the other's political affairs. The finding revealed Cho Myeong-chae's travel record of Japan as highly literary texts based on his personal experience beyond a mere travel record. The book ① embraced the complex of text composition, ② described the lives of ordinary people as they were and highlighted the vitality of the Japanese society, ③ demonstrated loyalties to the king and pure human feelings, ④ described envoys' activities and cultural exchanges between Korean and Japan, ⑤ criticized diplomatic conflicts and delegation's travels, and ⑥ depicted the complex surrounding the perception of Japan and the true feeling.
