The aim of this study is to make clear the Toegye school's educational thought and practice by analysing the background and characteristics of Toe-gye's scholastic group.
To meet this aim, second ways of approach were used. First, the genealogy of Toe-gye's scholastic group was looked into precisely so that we could see the formation and characteristics Toe-gye's scholastic group. Second, the background and characteristics of Toe-gye's scholastic group were analysed so that we could see the essence of the Toegye school's educational thought and practice
According to the confucian chronicle, The importance of Yeungnam district was as big as "Taesangooag(泰山喬嶽)." For example, after Toe-gye died, The development of the confucianism was much deeper as if "Chunchujengug(春秋戰國)." There appeared many great scholars such as Se-ae, Hag-bong, Han-gang, Gar-am, Dae-san, Han-ju, etc.
Thanks to great scholars on confucianism, Toe-gye's thought and scholarship handed down to the decedents continuously. This resulted in helping Toe-gye's scholastic group to form naturally. Toe-gye's scholastic group shared teacher-pupil relationship formation and scholastic characteristic that were important factors in forming scholastic group in the conventional society. The scholars in Toe-gye's scholastic group were grown up to be officials, or the chiefs in the Scholars of district.
Toe-gye's scholastic group concerned the human problem and practice on human and nature philosophy. Toe-gye wanted pupils to learn these. Therefore, Toe-gye's scholastic group had focused the development of themselves and recognition of moral on the basis of moral and ethic. Toe-gye's scholastic group also concerned the manners that are focused education and practice on the basis of practical scholarship viewpoint.
