The purpose of this paper is to analyse the various 'narratival spaces' of the road moitf in 1970s-2000s Korean modem novels.
〈The Road to Sampo〉 by Hwan Sog-yong in 1970s forms 'a broken road'. They could not help wandering between the broken roads. On the way home, in 'a ruined house' they experience the similar feeling at home owing to Baehwa's memory.
〈A Night Trip〉 by Yoon Jung-mo in 1980s forms 'a new way'. The juxtaposition with past and present intensifies mental conflicts but finally strengthens the will toward a new way. 'The provincial office' is a space of solidarity.
〈Silverfish Memorandum〉 by Yoon Dae-nyeong in 1990s forms 'a vanishing road'. Their trip is also a kind of going back home but its destination is like a mythic space. As 'I' go further toward 'that way', the way gets vanishing more and more. Finally 'I' cannot return to the realities of life. Isolated people live in a labyrinth.
〈They bury Treasure map at U-turns〉 by Yoon Seong-hee in 2000s forms 'a U-turn'. Their trip to treasure is a kind of play. They do not believe they can change a condition of life. So wherever they go, they always return to daily life. While eating together in 'a kitchen', they become closer just like a family but without patriarch.
