This paper investigated transmission aspects of farming songs in Chungbuk district. They could be classified into three kinds according to the farming procedure, i.e. rice-seedlings rooting-up songs, rice-seedlings planting songs, rice paddies weeding songs. As the result of investigation, farming songs in Chungbuk district are divided into two region. One is the Han River region, the other is the Geum River region. Danyang, Jecheon, Chungju, Gyesan, Eumseohg, Jincheon, part of Cheongwon is included in the Han River region. Boeun, Okcheon, Yeongdong, part of Cheongwon is included in the Han River region.
In the Han River region, Arari, Mungchise, Arasong are sung as rice-seedlings rooting-up songs, Arari, Arasong, Hana, Sangsa are sung as rice-seedlings planting songs, and Banga, Sangsa, Daeheori are sung as rice paddies weeding songs.
In the Geum River region, Jeongjasori is sung as rice-seedlings rooting-up songs, Jeongjasori is sung as rice-seedlings planting songs, and Jalhane, Eoheoya, Eolkasaniya are sung as rice paddies weeding songs.
Farming songs are performed with the influence of surrounding regions. Songs of the surrounding regions are sung without correction or with revision. The singing methods are changed in various ways. It shows the cultural competence of Chungbuk people.
Moreover It shows farming songs in Chungbuk district were created and transmitted in the close relation with the historical and geographical circumstances in Chungbuk district. The people of Chungbuk district have had the artistic competence that tolerate and compromise songs of the surrounding districts.
