Learning a foreign language consists of a lot of practice with continuous feedback. In this process, language teachers are always confronted with students’ errors. The purpose of this paper is to analyse categorical errors of Korean students learning English as a foreign language in a special context. The study analyzed Korean midshipmen’s writing errors in English class and surveyed the effect of the treatment using pre- and post-testing. Twenty-three midshipmen participated in the research. Error types were categorized in advance, in detail, and the students’ paired errors were analyzed with the SPSS program. Moreover, the relationship between proficiency and error rates was compared. For this comparison, the students’ TEPS scores were used. Many Korean ESL teachers will get valuable insight from the analysis, treatment, and findings.
