This article has looked at the current collection of folk songs in elementary school textbooks and the measures to improve, based on the issue of 'what to teach in Korean traditional music?' This article has diagnosed the problems of the current collection on the elementary school textbooks and suggested measures to improve them.
In the second chapter dealt about 'How to collect what songs?' For songs in the current elementary school textbooks, folk songs, popular songs, created Korean traditional songs fur children ate included. In the revised curriculum, Shijo, Korean odes, will be added. Among these, the current collection of songs ate checked mainly centering on folk songs. We came to the conclusion that a kind of selection of music should be made which takes into account the modes and the variety of functions. Especially, in the play songs, the most general music should be selected from each region, and generality should be secured through various versions.
In the third chapter, we covered the selection of music notation, the issue of music taking, and the issue on the content of notation, etc through the topic of 'how to ron them?' Principally, the music notation should aim fur Jeongganbo, and may need picture notes as a subsidiary measure. In the issue of music taking, substantial taking should be made to fit the purpose of being educational, and taking only one piece should be avoided for the purpose of generality.
In the content of notation, lyrics, key, tune, modes, Shigimshae, tempo, rhythm, methods and types of singing, and cadence were examined. Flexible characteristic should stand out in lyrics and they must contain various theme and strive to enliven the dialectical features. For key, the pitch extent should be selected to fully take into account the growth phase of students, and in the case of Yulmyeong notation, it is better to care so that the song can be played by musical instruments. In the scale, the scales of folk songs presented in the curriculum should be considered in selecting songs, and Shigimshae should be made clear that it is a structure available for correction.
Tempo should be oared with the rhythm as a criterion, it is appropriate to co-write 4/♪, and we need to open the door fur the possibility to change tempos. Accurate notations of the methods fur singing is absolutely necessary and furthermore, more various methods fur singing should be accepted Also, as fur the types of folk songs, we need to show that they are open structures which are available to be modified rather than taking and using them as songs which 'exist'. Also, the wrong selection of cadence should be hinder the understanding of scales.
