[INTRODUCTlON] The purpose of this study is to investigate and compare the exercise time, electromyograms, the centers of gravity, plantar pressure distributions in back squat motions of athletes and ordinary persons. [METHOD] This study was conducted in the laboratory of I University in Incheon with body-builders and ordinary persons aged at least 20 years. Using motion analysis, electromyograms, and plantar pressure distributions as variables, the experiment was conducted after defining each human body as a rigid body composed of 16 segments and attaching 33 pieces of 2㎝ diameter reflective markers to each of the subjects. The results were processed using the SPSS 18.0 program. T-tests were conducted and the significance level was set to .05. [RESULT] According to the results of analysis, the athletes and ordinary persons did not show any significant difference in the amounts of time spent by stage or changes in angles. The athletes and ordinary persons showed significant differences in electromyogram ratios only in the lateral great muscle but did not show any significant difference in plantar pressure distributions. [CONCLUSION] It was concluded that athletes and ordinary persons do not show any kinematic difference in squat motions. However, if the relationships between joint angles and pressure are investigated using diverse experiments and tools according to exercise programs and weight, differences may be more effectively obtained.
