The small circles in Hunminjeongeum were used as punctuation mark (句讀點) and the four tones mark of Chinese voice. But the same circles were not used in the Korean Version of Hunminjeongeum (訓民正音諺解本). It is helpful for us to understand Hunminjeongeum Haerye, if we know the history of punctuation mark(句讀點) and the four tones mark in Chinese history. In China the small circles, such as ‘∘’ and ‘•’ in publications were added by the tool named divination(點書). That is why the small circles in Hunminjeongeum Haerye are so uniformly and perfectly recorded at the form and the size. We have a daring opinion that the character of Joongseong(中聲) and the side dots of Hanguel were imprinted by the tool of divination too.
In Hunminjeongeum, the Chinese character used as boneum(本音) or original intention were unmarked. It coincides with the expression of Chinese polyphone. It is not difficult to distinguish Chinese polyphone, especially the boneum(本音). According to 『Reading schedule』(讀書分年日程), we can infer that 『Yuksseoryak』(六書略) and Gogeumunhoegeoyo(古今韻會擧要) should be used for distinguishing the tones of Chinese voice. I hope the study of circles" marks in Hunminjeongeum can be useful for restoration of Hunminjeongeum"s missing pages.
