The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of exercise history on thoracic mobility, shoulder gradient and functional movement in field hockey players. Ninety field hockey players were assigned to men (n=45) and women field hockey players (n=45). Men field hockey players were classified to men middle school players (MMP, n=13), men high school players (MHP, n=18) and men college players (MCP, n=14), and women field hockey players were also classified to women middle school players (WMP, n=18) and women high school players (WHP, n=12) and women college players (WCP, n=15) by exercise history and sex. All subjects were measured the bar-in front rotation (BFR), lumbar-locked rotation (LLR), shoulder gradient (SG) and functional movement (deep squat; DS, hurdle step; HS, in-line lunge; IL, shoulder mobility; SM, active straight leg raise; ASLR, trunk stability push-up; TSP and rotary stability; RS). BFR was significantly higher in MCP (p=.002) and WCP (p=.011) compared to MMP and WMP. LLR in men was significantly higher in MHP (p=.001) and MCP (p=.002) compared to MMP, and LLR in women was also significantly higher in WCP (p=.002) compared to WHP. SG in women was significantly higher in WCP (p=.011) compared to WMP. IL in men were significantly higher in MHP (p=.011) and MCP (p=.016) compared to MMP. TSP in men was significantly higher in MHP (p=.037) and MCP (p=.027) compared to MMP, and TSP in women was also significantly higher in WHP (p=.035) and WCP (p=.035) compared to WMP. RS in men was significantly higher in MHP (p=.000) and MCP (p=.000) compared to MMP. TS in men was significantly higher in MHP (p=.009) and MCP (p=.013) compared to MMP. These results confirmed that the exercise history specifically changes thoracic mobility, shoulder gradient and functional movements in field hockey players.
