The purpose of this essay is to explore and find the rationals why dance should be educated generally. The complex environment of the arts including dance is undergoing great change. Economists think of taste, or consumer preferences, as one of the principal determinants of demand. They also argued that the taste for art can be described as a 'cultivated' taste, meaning that one has to be familiar with a given form of art to develop a taste for it. Arts consumers would greatly enjoy art if they were familiar with it. However, familiarity comes only with exposure, and the public will not expose themselves to it since they have not the taste. This vicious circle can only be broken by such policies as subsidizing the distribution of art or providing in effective program of arts education to every student. If children and adolescents are not exposed to artistic performance during their minority, by the time they become adults will be too late. The arts including dance must be made available early, while tastes are still being formed and behavior pattern developed. Actually dance education is public service because it enriches society as a whole. It not only increases the productivity of the individual, it makes for a better life for everyone in the community. Without general dance education the democratic process as we know it could not function effectively. Thus, of all the issues dealt with government policies education is the most important. is at the heart of developing an interest and an understanding of the arts. The formulation of public arts policy is not mere a matter of balancing and contending interests for public arts funds. Ultimately it is a matter of vision. We, therefore, should recognize that dance education produces both a private benefit to the person receiving it and an external benefit to society at large.
