The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships amongst elementary school students' interest, perceived competences, and intrinsic motivation in dance classes. 379 children were participated in this study. A cluster analysis was conducted to identify the levels of dance interest among children. A series of one-wat MANOVA was employed to examine the cluster profiles for differences on perceived competence and intrinsic motivation. The results of cluster analysis indicated that three significant profiles were identified and labeled as follows; Cluster 1 moderate in dance interest, Cluster 2 high in dance interest, and Cluster 3 low in dance interest. The results of MANOVA revealed that Cluster 2 was highest on the perceptions of cognitive, social, and physical competences than other clusters. Also Cluster 2 was higher in fun/effort levels, but lower in tension compared with other clusters. In conclusion, children who experienced strongly positive emotion and satisfied in dance classes would much more perceive their cognitive, social, and physical competence, as well as autonomous intrinsic motivation and behaviors.
