In this treatise, I studied how the counter-memories of Korean A-bomb victims have been recorded, focusing on the documentary movie "The other HIROSHIMA Korean A-bomb victims tell their story" directed by a second generation Zainichi director Soo-nam Park. She, known widely as an author of the "Crime, Death and Love " which was a collection of letters between her and the defendant Jinwoo Lee in the crime case of Komatsugawa Incident, is a movie director who has tackled issues on Zainichi and Korean A-bomb victims head on through print and video medias. This documentary movie was her debut film, which focused on the Korean A-bomb victims. Until then, Japanese A-bomb films had brought innocent victims to the forefront to manipulate people not to aware that Japan was a perpetrator of war, and naturally Korean victims had been looked away in this stream. This movie has a significant meaning which suggests a possible approach to construct a new public memory overcoming the Japan"s national memory that has been based on post-war bombing nationalism.
In this study, I explore how Korean A-bomb victims" testimonies which are counter-memories against the post-war Japanese national memory are recorded through analyzing the film and the filmmaking background. This work is about sharing the issue of the Korean A-bomb victims, who have been severely destined, and at the same time, following the intense journey of one Zainichi who fought to restore their existence.
