The Joseon envoys had about 40 days in Beijing, and spent two to three days on a sightseeing tour. In the late 15th century, Joseon envoys toured the Temple of Confucius(國子監/孔廟), the ancestral shrine of Moon chunsang(文天祥廟), the Chao tian gong(朝天宫). Since the Ming Dynasty made official tours of Joseon envoys in 1534, Joseon envoys have toured habitually the Temple of Confucius(國子監/孔廟), the Temple of Heaven(天壇) and the Temple of Ancient Monarchs(歷代帝王廟). In addition to that, they visited the Chao tian gong(朝天宫), the Daci’en Temple of Beijing(大慈恩寺/海印寺), and the Miaoying Temple(白塔寺).
The Temple of Confucius, the Temple of Ancient Monarchs in the Ming Dynasty was meaningful to the Joseon people in terms of cultural homogeneity, confirmation and accumulation of knowledge. Tao tian gong and Taoism and Buddhist culture seen on the streets of Beijing were meetings with alien cultures. The Temple of Heaven, the Daci’en Temple of Beijing gave him the pleasure of seeing such splendid buildings, beautiful scenery, etc. Meanwhile, Joseon envoys criticized the customs of the Ming, facing their disappointment while touring Beijing. With the Joseon envoys continuing to tour Beijing for 100 years, they have not considered the Ming Dynasty as an ideal country only.
