The conquest of Iberian Peninsula byMuslims in the year 711 did not only bring about a political change but also instigated an important cultural, social, and scientific transformation in the Mediterranean region. Various scientific discourses and different arts that were popular in the Eastern part of theMediterranean at the time found their way into thewestern regions and Andalusia. This paper examines the contributions of Persians and Andalusians to Islamo-Arabic calligraphy. It concludes that the Persian cultural area played the most important role in the emergence and development of Islamo-Arabic calligraphy. After the conquest of the Iberian Peninsula, Arabic calligraphy was introduced, and Andalusians imitated the Eastern calligraphers for nearly two centuries gradually creating the Andalusian style.
