Morus alba Linne. has long been used as a traditional medicine for the anti-diabetic, anti-hyperlipidemic, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects. However, there are no studies on the effect of Morus alba Linne.(MB) related to muscular atrophy caused by oxidative stress. In this study, we conducted DPPH radical scavenging activity in water extracts of candidates medicinal plants from Korea and Mongolia. Also, we investigated the effects of Morus alba Linne. water extract (MBE) on the recovery and prevention of oxidative stress-induced muscular atrophy in mouse skeletal myoblast C2C12 cells. MBE was performed on H2O2-treated myoblasts for anti-atrophic activity; its effects on the growth, toxicity, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production; and apoptosis by antioxidant activity; and on the differentiation of myoblast into myotube were examined.
