Oxidative stress is a major cause of muscle aging and loss of muscle tissue. In this study, we investigated DPPH radical scavenging activity in water extracts of Korean medicinal herbs. And, the protective and improving effects of mixed extract (MAEB) containing Morus alba Linne (MB), Acanthopanacis cortex (AC), Eucommia ulmoides (EU), and Black soybean (BS) against oxidative damage was investigated in C2C12 cells. The effect of MAEB on cell viability of C2C12 myoblasts was investigated by MTT assay. The protective effect of MAEB was investigated anti-atrophic activity in oxidative stress-induced by H2O2 myoblasts and myotube. Subsequently, in order to confirm the cytoprotective ability and the mechanism of inhibiting muscle atrophy following MAEB treatment in oxidative stress-induced myotube, the activation of Myo D and myogenine, which were transcriptional proteins induced the differentiation of myotube cells, were identified.
