Challenges Encountered in Online Classes During COVID-19Pandemic: As Perceived by University StudentsShaneil Dipasupil & Hyunjung Lee Abstract: This study aims to identify the challenges in online classes during COVID-19 pandemic as perceived by university students in South Korea. There were 750 responses from the survey conducted through an online questionnaire. Descriptive method was used to analyze the data of the study. It was found out that the main challenges experienced by the participants included stress and isolation, conflict in priorities between family and school, and lack of motivation to participate in online classes. Regarding the positive aspect of online classes, the respondents also perceived that online classes were less expensive since they did not have to travel to university and thus saved costs on transportation, school allowance, and other incidental expenses. Based on the study’s findings, proposed solutions were given to overcome the challenges encountered during an online class. Some of these recommendations for the students were adopting effective time management strategies and good study habits. Developing an innovative pedagogy that is more suitable for online learning was also recommended for the teachers and school administrators. The limitation of this study was its scope. Due to time constraint and data availability, the study was limited to only one higher education institution in Korea.
