The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences in sexual consciousness, the actual state of sex education, and the sex education required according to gender and school type (humanities high school and vocational high school). The subjects of this study were 2,155 students of 23 high schools in 14 cities and counties of Jeollabuk-do. We performed frequency analysis and cross- tabulation analysis using SPSS Statistics 22.0. It was found that there were differences in sex informants, how to cope with sex-related trauma, the level of physical contact with friends of the opposite sex, whether students can refuse undesired sexual behavior compelled by their friends of the opposite sex, the persons in charge of sex education, the frequency of sex education, students’ satisfaction with the persons in charge of sex education, the appropriate timing of systematic sex education, and how school sex education should be implemented. Although educational authorities perform school sex education in diverse ways, such education does not yet fully reflect student’s needs. It is required to reflect students’ needs more systematically and establish more efficiently the correct understanding of sex in schools.
