ChatGPT, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) tool, has recently gained widespread popularity. Following its public release in November 2022, the tool garnered over a million subscribers in a mere week. The exceptional ability of ChatGPT to perform intricate tasks has captivated various fields. However, its implications for the realm of education have generated mixed emotions among researchers and practitioners. The advent of this technology is poised to fundamentally transform the pre-existing aspects and foundations of, and traditions and concepts in education. In the wake of its debut, numerous influential individuals, media outlets, and organizations have made predictions regarding the future of ChatGPT and its potential impact on society. The current paper provides a comprehensive overview of AI, with a particular emphasis on ChatGPT. It examines best practices and ethical considerations while working with generative AI, and offers recommendations for using ChatGPT in educational contexts. It explores the potential benefits and challenges associated with AI technology and provides practical insights on the opportunities and risks involved in working with AI tools including ChatGPT.
