The oral tradition saying that Kija(箕子) went to Joseon seems to first appear at the end of later Han(前漢末). In the period of later Han, new data about the ruler of Old Joseon and its local custom appeared, but they were not connected to Kija. In the era of Wijin(魏晉), a new type of Kija(箕子) oral tradition appeared. A new oral tradition about Old Joseon(古朝鮮), shown in 『Weilueh』(魏略), seems to be collected in the Joseon area, and contradictions sometimes occur in arranging many oral traditions. In 『Sankouchih』, an article appears that clearly links the Old joseon ruler to Kija.
The Yejeon(濊傳) of 『Sankouchih』(三國志) describes the content embellished as if the Code of Eight Prohibitions was created by Kija, and then records that Chun was referred as the king after he became older than 40. 『Sankouchih』(三國志) is the first record which obviously connects the kings of Old Joseon with Kija. It suggests that the genealogy of 40s was thus recognized to be transmitted from Kija to King Chun, and that Joseon before Wiman’s rule could be understand as ‘Kija Joseon’, and therefore, the theory of Kija Joseon(箕子朝鮮說) seems to be appeared. Chen Shou might not directly embellish the data collected from provinces and prefectures by collecting the Old Joseon royal family with Kija, but the data might be already embellished.
The oral tradition of Kija might be extended to the Kija Joseon theory(JunwangKijahusonseol), as the genealogy from Kija to King Jun was recognized by The 『Sankouchih』 to be continued for 40 generations. This might be affected by the fact that the Nakrang officers’ collection and summary of local data were influenced by the oral tradition of Kija and the contemporary situation, the collision between Han/Ye society and prefecture-country forces. Moreover, The perception of Kija (箕子) by Jangwha (張華), the guardian of Jinsu (陳壽) might also affect it.
