This paper is to study the characteristic analysis of the mobile banking and the activating strategies. It analyzes these characteristics in the environmental, business and technical aspects. To put it concretely, we investigate, above all, the mobile concepts with the mobile telecommunication situation and analyze the case of Woori Bank selected as the representative bank in the mobile banking in Korea. We can summarize the characteristics for the diffusion of the mobile banking in the environmental, business and technical aspects as follows.
First, in the environmental aspect, the decision of the industrial policy and telecommunication service used to be directed by government must be transferred into the commercial autonomy. Moreover, legal preservation of users, the countermove of international bank law and the free education for mobile banking and technological service should be made.
Second, in the business aspects, even though mobile banking has the advantages of ubiquity, reachability, security and convenience, it needs to incorporate localization, instant connectivity and more personalized banking service to be more active in operation.
Third, in the technical aspects, the different protocols of three companies like WAP, ME and W3C and the weak operating service have to be improved. The different internet platforms of mobile communication in Korea should be unified in the international standard set.
Base on the activating strategies, mobile banking in Korea can play a role in enabling a major channel of the next generation banking business, opening a new area of benking service.
