『Nanjangiga ssoaolin Jakeun Gong』(Mun Hak Kwa Gi Sung Sa; 1978) written by Cho Se Hee is a serial novel consisting of 12 chapters published in 1975. The lead character is Nan lang Yi and the first chapter is 「Kal Nal」. It shows well the changes and reality in Korean society during the industrialization period in the 1970's.
It deals with problems an isolated class which resulted from political and economic contradictions in the 1970's. Since its expression is a very unique technique, it was noticed early. But it doesn't bring the light totally on the subject. So this monograph will show the study on the parts of form and content in view of how literature was faced with social contradiction in the 1970's. This study is about how the writer recognized the social conditions in the 1970's and accepted those in form and content.
In the thesis, I studied how literature could accept this social phenomenon. In this study, I quoted alienation structure of chung moon-gil and dealt with it in general way. I set up the world of Mebius strip with the background of what causes alienation and, the type and meaning of that the classes(alienation class) feeling.
At first, the author proposes that industrialization is the background. though the aim of industrialization is to pursue the essential values for Human Being's existence, there are many problems in the evolution of progress. The inconsistencies of social and political structure of rich, wide-spread materialism, the corruption of moral and social values causes a value of exchange to be higher than that of usage, and this is why the poor and powerless are alienated.
In this thesis, I looked into the types of alienation caused by this process by two ways. The alienation from the values is that of human and moral values. The alienation from the material is that of minimum right to live which is necessary to the type of alienation to overcome this alienation.
Some changes, he hoped that the opposite view of the world would be overcome through the normalization of education, and the self awakening of laborers. He suggested that the realization of love and understanding would be made for each other by recognizing that each class is not an independent existence like Mebious strip. The world view of Mebius strip symbolizes the world all human being strive to enjoy. This world as there is no inside and outside is the space where all human being must live an equal life economically and socially. And where the individual can become truly self actualized. It's the world where we can lead a life worthy of Man that Coh se-hee wanted to tell us and young-soo, the san of dwarf, tried to make. Trying to make this world means to overcame alienation.
As we have seen, 『Nanjangiga ssoaolin Jakeun Gong』 written by Cho se-hee is one of the greatest literature works that describe our reality of the end of 1970's. Though it's his limitation that he showed that he showed throughly the aspect that ideology of capital and labor is in opposition with each other but he had not point out the solution for this confrontation in the improvement or reform of realistic social structure.
Bring a labor problem into relief at the first time and making aware of the fact through the group of capitalist and labor that responsibility for alienation is not in a certain person but in all members of society are his literary achievement.
