The purpose of this article is to study the meaning of the urban-space by the Park Tae-Soon's 1960's novels. Park Tae-Soon's novels are characterised by the experience of the urban life style of the Seoul in the 1960's. Mordernization and industrialization are the themes that have a great role in his works. Through theses themes we can recognize his outlook on the world and the aestheic characteristics of his works.
The analysis method this article adapts is "Urban-space and Subject", which is the method of socio- spatial theory. The aspects of urban space and subject used as a fundamental frame of this analysis is a main factor that have a great infulence on the construction of novels. The aspects of urbanism which appears in Park Tae-Soon's novels are classified into three.
The followings are the findings of this study.
1) In the first urbanism type are the works based on experience of romance. In these works character's self-identity begins with devided urban consciousness. The experience to everydayness in Seoul, 1960s is analyzed through the walker's eyes.
2) The second type of novels deals with anarchic space and the street people. These works focalize on the mental crisis of anomy and passion of the 4. 19 revolution.
3) The third type deals with lives of 'Oaechon-dong' space. 'Oaechon-dong' is isolated the center of Seoul, but 'Oaechon-dong 's people are establish self-identity through interface. The results above show that urban-space have much relation with the aspects of the relationship and social change.
Park's novel deals with the essence of urbanism that Korean modernity cannot be identified with western one. Therefore their works take very important status in the history of literature.
