This paper is a linguistic study on loaned proper noun in the Hanseoungsunbo(1983-1984). Although the Hanseongsunbo was written in pure Chinese classics, the Sino-Korean words in this paper were accepted as Korean vocabulary. And many proper nouns loaned from Indo-European language were introduced for the first time in this paper.
The loaned proper noun in the Hanseongsunbo can be classified by four criterions; origin, borrowing method, borrowing route and description method. By origin, loan word can be classified into the one from China and Japan, the other part of Asia and Europe and America. By borrowing method, loan word can be sorted into phonemically loaned word, semantically loaned word and translated word. And there are two borrowing route; China and Japan. Most of all proper noun was written in Chinese character, but some words were rarely written in Hangeul.
Because the Far East three countries was used Chines character for a long time, the loaned proper noun written in Chinese character was freely used in three countries. However it is impossible to transcribe loaned proper noun accurately in Chinese character, so some proper nouns were loaned semantically and translated. But the majority of proper noun of this paper was loaned phonemically.
The most important proper noun group is borrowed from Indo-European. The great part of these words were phonemically loaned. Although there were many limit of Chinese character orthography, the loanword of this paper became the model for loanword orthography.
