Students tended to have negative understanding about the Late Koryeo Period. They perceived the late Koryeo as the period of oppression and exploitation by the Yuan(元) and the Pro-Yuan Aristocrats(權門勢族). Most textbooks in fact have described the late Koryeo to be the time of economic exploitation and political oppression by the Yuan. In these textbooks, various reforms failed as a consequence of the intereference by the Pro-Yuan Aristocrats and the pro-Yuan officials(親元勢力). On the contrary, New Scholar-officials(新進士大夫) are described as the principal body that opened the new era. In order to foster proper understanding of this period, I have newly reconstructed the socioeconomic contents using the Rectification of Farmlands and Farming Population Services(田民辨整事業) as a central theme. The socioeconomic history of this period clearly demonstrates the relentless effort of the Koryeo government to conserve national funds. Topics that can be studied according to the socioeconomic developmental stages of the Late Koryeo Period were selected for detailed examination. On this basis, the lesson plan was constructed by comparing the socioeconomic contents of the Late Koryeo Period described in the 8 different textbooks with the newly reconstructed topics. In doing this, I tried to emphasize the autonomous and independent historical characteristics of the Koryeo period. If these characteristic are to be reflected in the textbooks, the students will be able to understand the society of the Late Koryeo Period more positively.
