Although many studies have focused on dleiary habits and behaviors among children, few have looked at individual dletary behaviors and food preferences and their relailonships with personality tmus. This study examlned the relation- ships between children ’ s dletaIy behaviors, food preferences and personality trans using a random sample of 236 sixth graders in Chunchcon. Results showed a high prcvalence of undesirable dietaiy behavlors among children. 428% of the chlldren had skipped breakfasl at leasl twice a week ‘ 53% had overeaten, 458% had eaten iITeguIarly, and 665% had eaten an unbalanced meal-These undesirable dictaiy behaviors were negaIively associated with such personallty naits as Soclablllty, responslblllty, emotional sIability, aCIivity, and Mpenonty. When asked about food preference, fruits were IIlOSI popular while vegetables were least desirable. Total food preference scores were positively co π elated with enmuonal Sta- bility (r = .204) , actlVeness (r = .247) , soclability (r = l56) , responsIbillty (r = .249) , and supenmi ty (r = .l33) . Prefe- rence for meats had negative corrclatlons with responsibility (r = -.l33) , sOClabllity (r = -. I46) ‘ and superiority (r = - .l32) , wink preference for vegetables was positively Coirelaied with these personality trans (r = .292, .244, and 230, respectively) . In conclusion, the more desirable dletaIy behaviors and the hlgher total food preference scores, the more positlve the child ’ s personality tralts. In addiIlon, preference for vegetables was associated with positive personality aits- The findings suggest the need for continuous attention and guidance on desirable dietary habits for school children both at home and at school.
