This paper aims to illuminate the travel poems of Crossing the Water by Sylvia Plath in view of ‘flight’ and ‘becoming.’ Deleuze said writing plays a role as an exit as well as a passage for a possibility of a new life. That is, writing means the ‘line of flight.’ Through the line of flight, flight desire is expressed, escaping from the existing order and pursuing a new life. Therefore, to Deleuze, writing is ‘becoming’ and practising the life of minority. The same is true of Plath. To Plath, too, writing is her life itself and her substitute; also a jet and an exit of her life. Through writing as an exit, she showed that the speakers transformed their negative thought into the positive thought that they accommodate their current situations in the end. We can see that Plath attempted to embody ‘poetics of flight and becoming’ as minority-poet searching for real freedom in her poems such as “Wuthering Heights,” “Finisterre,” “Parliament Hill Fields,” “Two Campers in Cloud Country,” “Sleep in the Mojave Desert” and “Crossing the Water” in this paper.
