Many different critics have analyzed Plath’s poems as a struggle of woman against man-centered patriarchal system, limiting her poetry within the segment of male/female hierarchical dualism regardless of success or failure of the struggle. This paper purposes to read Plath’s poems according to three lines (the molar line, the molecular line, the line of flight) with which Deleuze comprehends and analyzes patterns of life. The molar line makes rigid segments, which involve states, institution, classes, society, fixed relationship and etc. The molecular line creates cracks and oscillation in the rigid segments (or rigid territory), making them unstable. The line of flight explodes these two lines and makes a totally new creative movement. In Plath’s poems, patriarchal system proves to be rigid segments and anxiety about or rejection to anything rigid and fixed, cracks and oscillation. Suicide proves to be the line of flight, rejecting to be captured in hierarchical dualism of male/female of patriarchy. In terms of these three lines, Plath’s poems have broken through and gotten out of the black holes of the rigid segment by suicide, achieving an absolute deterritorialization. With suicide as the line of flight, Plath’s poetry has been given a new dimension of meaning which goes beyond patriarchal dualism.
