How diverse characteristics of environment impact creative achievement is one of the significant interests in a society of uncertainty as creativity is critical in complex problem solving. In spite of its importance, there is not enough research that empirically examined this subject in Korea; the reasons may be the vagueness of the concept of creativity and the difficulty to measure its changes. This study is a systematic analysis of nine studies published in international journals that have empirically examined the impact of physical environment on creativity via experiment, interviews, or survey questionnaires. The result shows that there are commonalities as well differences in characteristics of environment influencing individual creativity versus team creative achievement. Characteristics impacting individual creativity were disorder than ordered environment, dimmed light that too bright one, and decoration and details in environmental while those for team creativity were sociopetal furniture layout enhancing interactions and layout for casual encounter. More empirical research on this subject will be helpful for the development of theories on the relation between physical environment and creativity.
