After harvest or during cold storage and distribution period, Asian pear fruit are prone to develop the symptom of internal browning incidence. The symptoms of internal browning disorder are widely detected on cortex tissue, core tissue, or both tissues at the same time, and thus referred to as cortex browning, core browning, or flesh browning, respectively, depending on the location of internal browning. The incidence of internal browning could be detected after short-term international trade to Taiwan. Preharvest GA4+7 spraying treatment caused to enhance the incidence and severity of cortex and core browning during long-term cold storage. In addition, preharvest 1-MCP spraying treatment differently affected the incidence of internal browning, depending on Asian pear cultivars. Interestingly, postharvest 1-MCP fumigation treatment reduced the incidence and severity of cortex and core browning during shelf life period, however, not significantly affected during long-term cold storage. The incidence and severity of internal browning were differently affected by storage temperature during long-term cold storage.
