The purpose of this study was to investigate the types of verbal instruction and modeling music teachers used for their teaching and the effects of these teaching strategies on students` performance. Based on the observations, it was concluded that the use of only verbal instruction did not result in positive effects on students` performance. Also, most teachers used modeling with verbal instruction, so teachers should spend more time in using only modeling. The next interesting result was that modeling using rhythm chants and secondary instruments greatly helped students improve their performing skills. Finally, although some previous studies have shown visual or aural modeling through videotape to be of benefit to students, nobody used any kinds of these modeling methods. Caution should be used in generalizing results to other situations because of the limited number of teachers in the observations
