The purpose of the present study was to investigate the application of micro-teaching in a teacher education program at a university in the United States. A qualitative research method was used to employ for the purpose of gathering data. Data were collected in the fall of 2017. Data sources consisted of class observations, lesson plans, peer evaluation, students’ self-assessment, and reflection paper. The micro-teaching application in this study was designed to provide students with practical experiences after they had been exposed to different teaching approaches and techniques. The teaching demonstrations were evaluated by the instructor and by classmates using a prescribed evaluation form and providing verbal feedback. The instructor integrated a lesson on micro-teaching as a learning community and encouraged collaboration among the students. Using a lesson observation rubric and an evaluation of student observations helped the students provide constructive peer feedback. The findings showed that the application of micro-teaching can be modified to enhance student learning. To prepare pre-service teachers to teach future students, teacher education programsneed to adopt applications that provide pre-service teachers with opportunities to be involved in self-reflection and critical analysis of teaching.
