Purpose: This study is aimed to examine the effect of the SCK workshosp on the coaches’ specialized content knowledge. The research questions were: (1) How does the SCK workshop for rhythmic gymnastics affect coaches’ ability to detect errors and represent tasks? (2) Does coaches’ SCK vary based on the level of the athletes they train?
Method: The study involved twenty coaches, with eight in the experimental group and twelve in the comparison group. Error detection was analyzed using the absolute value of the difference between national championships results and the coaches’ evaluation scores. For the task representation, descriptive statistics and non-parametric statistics were used based on the content map.
Results: The study’s key findings are as follows: First, the coachesn ithe experimental group exhibited improved error detection skills after participating in the SCKw orkshop. Second, the experimental group prioritized artistic faults for junior gymnasts, whlei they focused more on technical faults for senior gymnasts. Third, the overall SCK index score was higher in the experimental group following the SCK workshop. Fourth, in the content development categories, the experimental group reduced their use of informing tasks (I) and extension tasks (E), while increasing their utilization of refining tasks (R). Moreover, the experimental group utilized extension tasks (E) for junior gymnasts with low difficulty scores, refining tasks (R) for junior gymnasts with low task scores, and applied taskg-ame (AG) for national gymnasts. Lastly , the experimental group emphasized the importance of routine and physical strength for senior players, and they used demonstrations and videos for self-modeling when players faced learning difficulties, which aided in observational learning.
Conclusion: This study contributes to the existing literature on SCK by highlighting the significance of tailoring SCK workshops to specific sports and demonstrating howh tese workshops can influence coaches ’ content knowledge based on the athletes’ level of performance.
