This study aimede to examine factors influencing the perceived quality of fitness centers services, users’ exercise engagement, and their intentions of continuous usage. In addition, the study sought to validate the moderating effect of perceived self-expansion. A total of 425 questionnaire responses from individuals in their 20s to 50s who have used fitness centers within the past year were gathered. To analyze the responses, a factor analysis, a multi-regression analysis, and a hierarchical regression analysis using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) were performed. The results were as follows. The factor analysis revealed that the motivations for participation, perceived self-expansion, and exercise engagement were divided into several types. Motivations for participation were classified as entertainment, correction and rehabilitation, weight control, and appearance management, while perceived self-expansion was categorized into aesthetically and psychologically stabilizing self-expansion. On the other hand, exercise engagements were divided into expectation-intensive engagement and continuous and gradual engagement. It was found that different independent variables had varying effects on exercise engagement at fitness centers. Notably, “psychologically stabilizing” self-expansion had the most substantial impact on both types of exercise engagements, whereas “expectation-intensive” exercise engagement had the greatest effect on users’ perceived quality of fitness centers services and their intention of continuous usage. Ultimately, this study further confirmed the moderating effect of perceived self-expansion in the relationship between perceived service quality and the intention of continuous usage.
