The purpose of this study is to present a comprehensive literature review on health physical fitness and exercise effects in university students with developmental disabilities. University students with developmental disabilities are less likely to engage in voluntary efforts to prevent disease and improve their health, these characteristics are associated with higher prevalence rates, and regular exercise is recommended as one of many interventions to improve health. The results showed that exercise participation in university students with developmental disabilities is relatively low compared to university students without disabilities, and variables related to health physical fitness levels and cardiovascular health are also low. We found a significant relationship between decreased health physical fitness and cardiovascular health and both aerobic and resistance exercises were found to have a positive effect on health physical fitness and cardiovascular health in university students with developmental disabilities. Therefore it is important to long-term regular exercise habits to prevent decreased health physical fitness and lifestyle disease, and there is a need for continued expansion of exercise participation for university students with developmental disabilities. This study can be used as a basis for developing various exercise programs to improve health physical fitness and lifestyle disease of university students with developmental disabilities.
