This paper examines when and how postwar Japanese society's perception of Korea changed through changes in the volume and content of Korea-related newspaper articles published in Japan after the war. Based on the amount and content of newspaper articles, the perception of Korea in postwar Japanese society can be divided into three periods. The first period is temporary interest period, spanning from 1945 to the mid-1980s. During this time, many articles focused on political, diplomatic, and South Korea-Japan relations, with much negative content. Secondly, a period of increasing interest from the mid-1980s to the mid-2000s saw various interests in Korea grow, with more positive content. The third period, from the mid-2000s to 2020, is marked by declining interest. The amount of news reported during this period decreased compared to the previous period, while interest in inter-Korean relations remained particularly high. Previous studies have pointed out that postwar Japanese society's perception of Korea began to change positively in the mid-1980s, but these studies were limited by their reliance on fragmentary data. In this study, through the headlines of newspaper articles, which are continuous data, it was found that since the mid-1980s, Japan's Korea-related reports have changed quantitatively, with content becoming more diversified and relatively more positive. This supports the findings of previous studies.
