Deuk-Kye O K?n was born in the period of MyongJong which was also the time of the revolution of ethics. He had set his mind on pursuing studies which would ultimately contribute to the building of a nation which looks after the general welfare of its people. In order to make a feasible and unyielding statement, he invested great deal of time in his researches which resulted in discussion of learning process of DoHak(道學) and plans for a new policy. He suggested that the royal household's management strictly apply the decrees advocated in the writings of the Doctrine of the Mean(中庸). Without Deuk-kye, even with its DoHak, history, and other practical fields, the metaphysical aspect of Confucianism might not have been able to attract as much attention as it did from scholars.
Studying of his Chujakarye(朱子家禮) and The four Books(四書), properly served as a lesson that all people should strive to achieve. The general public was acquainted with the practices of ethics and experiences of moral sense that the royal household's perception in national royal marriage system in mid Chos?n Dynasty moved on to the aristocratic class.
Through Deuk-Kye O K?n's lifetime worth of studying and the subjects he covered, we can easily find his beliefs on what kind of qualities a government and society should possess in order to properly serve its people. Confucian rationalism. as it became the main intellectual theme in old Korea, congregated a particularly powerful intellectual vigor.
