The purpose of this paper is to criticize the contents of the school grammar and to propose a plan for firming the independent status of the school grammar course and improving the contents of school grammar.
In chapter 2, I examined the contents of school grammar in three sides. Firstly I examined the possibility that school grammar could maintain the independency in Korean education. And I clarified that the contents that is repeated in other subjects or other domains should be excepted. Secondly I examined the contents of Grammar overall and pointed out problems in the arrangement of the study contents. The part of phonology should contribute to the education of spelling and pronunciation. From this viewpoint, the part of sounds and the vocal organ could be excepted. In the part of morphology, I pointed out that the part of speech must be described in connection with sentence, And in the part of lexicology, I pointed out that lexicology and semantics must be presented in synthetic unit. And I pointed out that the syntax must explain the process of sentence extension from the simple sentence to the complex sentence. Thirdly I examined the table of contents of Grammar and pointed out that the posting of lexicology between morphology and syntax was problem in grading of grammar education.
In chapter 3, I propose a plan for reforming school grammar. This proposal is based on the ideas that was presented in chapter 2. In this chapter I proposed that the contents of school grammar was constituted by the principle of sentence composition, and was expressed by language form rather than concept of grammar.
