The purpose of this paper is to analyze modern readers who had read modern novels in the age of modern enlightenment. It is very important to find relationships between the modern media and readers. Because the modern media made readers be the modern readers.
The magazine 〈Sonyun; The Boy〉 played an important role in this regard. The magazine 〈Sonyun; The Boy〉was first published on November 1st. 1908 and last published on May fifth, 1911. The publisher was Choi, Nam Sun, who had published various writings, such as novels, poetry, history and so on. Especially the magazine 〈Sonyun; The Boy〉 had published the readers column. It had taught how to write, how to make a plot, and how to write an envelope. Therefore even readers who had not know how to write could send column to the magazine 〈Sonyun; The Boy〉.
However, The magazine 〈Sonyun; The Boy〉 had changed their strategy for readers. At the first time, it had emphasized "writing". As time goes by, it had put stress on "reading". The magazine 〈Sonyun; The Boy〉 had changed their policy to ambivalent strategy. Moreover it had trained readers to write and to read.
Therefore, The magazine 〈Sonyun; The Boy〉 had played a important role in the differentiating of readers. They divided readers of the magazine into several types through making the kinds of readings varied. They provided more intelligent readings for the upper class such as a famous translated novels and a work by Lee Guang-su. On the other hand, they provided funny and easy readings for the lower class such as a witticism. But they were not public, but middle class readers who could read chinese letter and had learned in elementary school. After all, The magazine 〈Sonyun; The Boy〉 was a very important medium to develop modern literature and modern readers.
