Leptin is known as a hormone released from the adipocytes to regulate weight and energy expenditure. A number of studies have shown that the leptin has correlations with body mass index(BMI), body fat(%), fat-mass, fat-free mass, growth hormone(GH), insulin-like growth factor I(IGF-1), testosterone(T) and exercise. However, these results are inconsistent. So, the purpose of this study was to conform when selecting body composition group(normal vs abnormal) for leptin research, what is more useful standard in the middle of BMI and %body fat. Second to evaluate the effect of long term`s training on leptin levels. Third, finding what are the correlated factors by using the correlation analysis. We select the participants who has not been doing exercise for 1 year(NE, n=16) and ssirum player who has been doing exercise for least 6 years(AT, n=12). Among the NE, we made two groups(normal and abnormal) by using both standard of BMI and %body fat. And the levels of GH, IGF-1, T and leptin were compared between groups. In addition, we select participants who has the equal body composition between NE and AT, and serum leptin concentration was compared. In conclusion, the two standards, BMI and %body fat, made significant differences on the leptin concentration(p<.05) between the groups. The %body fat standard made more different. There was no significant different between AT and NE group at the equal body composition condition(p>05). Only the level of T was significantly correlated(r=-.84, p<.001). We concluded that %body fat standard is more useful when make different body composition group for leptin research. Long term exercise didn`t have an independent effect on leptin concentration, but T has much more effects on leptin.
