The aim of the research was to arrive at a detailed understanding of English language education for young learners in Korea. The study shows that Korea Ministry of Education introduced English language on the elementary level in order to bring up a global person from the early age.
This paper examines the factors which influence English language teaching and learning in Korea: Early start (age factor, better pronunciation, time factor); the Ministry of Education involvement and support (well-developed curriculum, well-trained teachers, sufficient materials); and parental support.
The study concludes that the most effective factor can be the age, as the theory of CPH strongly argues. Also, the content-based instruction is one of the effective factors that the Korea Ministry of Education is trying to apply in public school curriculum. Moreover, the teachers’ and parents’ supports are the crucial matter for young learners in order to motivate them to learn English. In order to improve English language education for young learners in Korea, all these factors should be taken into account.
