As environment is increasingly global, this study explores the influence of cultural adaptation factors in the intercultural communication process. More specifically, the study examines the relationships between various demographic and psychological factors and the cultural adaptation among Chinese immigrants in Incheon. A total of 99 Chinese residing in Incheon Metropolitan City completed a self-administered questionnaire that contains measures of perceived intercultural communication competence, the use of mass media, and host language competence as well as demographic variables such as education, income, gender, age, and the length of residence in Korea. The results showed that the length of residence and Korean language competence affected the cultural adaptation. As a result, this study found that, income, the length of residence and Korean language competence influenced the use of mass media while education and Korean language competence affected intercultural communication competence. Overall, Chinese Residents in Incheon were found to spend more time using host (Korean) media than their ethnic media. In conclusion, the intercultural communication competence was associated positively with the cultural adaptation.
