The object of this thesis is to look into the poetics of `house` through investigating how the structures and the changes of space make the meaning of the novels. As Bachulare indicated, the house is our first world and the universe itself. Therefore, reading the house means reading our world and dream. For this discussion, I choose three novels according to the horizental or vertical structures of the house represented in the novels. In Lee Sang`s novel <The Fly>, the opposite structure of inside/outside makes the meaning of ontological tragedy as `a stuffed genius`, and the house is the space representing the hero`s inner conflict and the will to fly out. Especially, the situation of divided roon into `wife`s one and `my one` symbolizes the hero`s conflict between light and darkness, restriction and liberalization, openness and closeness, and so on. And the repeated movements between wife`s room and his room, and room and road eventually make the meaning of the rebirth and the fly of hero. In the Novel of Park, Wan-Seo, the movement from the house of Parkjeokgol to the house of Seoul symbolically shows our confused modern history. Even though the shakeness of traditional values already appeares in the house of Parkjeokgol, the house means a space of peace and life. So, the entry to the moern society symbolized as a movement to Seoul can be understood as a entry to the world of sterility. The story of <The Kitchen> by Kim, So-Jin developes between a garret and a kitchen structured in the vertical system of up and down. In this novel, the kitchen is a space in which our birth and dead happen, and we make food, shower, and love, and so on. The kitchen is a confusing world itself to hero. So, he escape from the world to a garret in which he becomes to experience the physical and mental growth. Therefore, the movement from a garret to a kitchen symbolizes the course of growth attained through accepting the contradictory and double-faced truth of our life. As this analyses showed, `the house` is an interesting space which represents the conflicting inner world of hero, and reflects the changes of social and historical developement, and symbolizes the nature of our life and being. That is why we should attention to the structure of the house and the movement of space in the novels.
