The purposes of this study were to examine the factors in the infants and toddlers' symbolic play of complexity. Generally, the infant and toddle's play can be partitioned into the exploratory, the nonsymbolic play and the symbolic play. The factors in infants and toddlers' symbolic play of complexity were infant and toddlers' development level, scaffolding through the adults' interactions, the interactions with the toy play, and the play contents.First, the symbolic play of complexity depends on the infants and toddlers' development level. With ages, the object of the symbolic play changes from self-directed to others-directed, integrates the object substitutions and the individual symbolic actions, and performes the complexity of the symbolic play.Second, the scaffolding through the adults interactions performes infants and toddlers' symbolic play of complexity. Mothers appear to become more attuned to the infants and toddlers' play interest over time.Third, the provided symbolic toy play, takes on important role in the infants and toddlers' symbolic play of complexity.Forth, the play contents in familiar scripts allows the infants and toddlers to play longer and play in a detailed scripts, and become complex. The play level may depend on the play content.
