Among the research achievements of Korean history for the period during 1876~1910 in 2016~2017, a series of researches on Korea-Japan Treaty of 1876 were published in commemoration of 140th Anniversary. Joint researches on Yu Gil-Jun(俞吉濬) also has been accomplished in various fields, based on the newly discovered documents.
On foreign relationship, researches on that with each countries like China, Japan, Russia, some particular events like Russo-Japanese War and Japanese annexation of Korea, Korean perception toward foreign Countries and border areas have proceeded, along with those spanning long term about the status in the international law and diplomatic system of Korea at that time.
One of the major characteristics in the researches is that radical questions were asked on some famous common ideas of Korean history. For example, an attempt to sublate dichotomous thinking of tradition and modernity, and criticism for the common view of the Enlightenment Party by tracing its origin were made.
Another feature is the microscopic approach to the traditional subjects like Donghak(동학) and Righteous Army(의병). Regardless of some researches on macroscopic discourses, most of them were about details like separate areas and figures. Such microscopic researches were made on the subjects of the family register, land register and so on, besides above-mentioned 2 ones.
