In order to understand the research trends of biology education in Korea, this study analyzed history and research papers of the Korean Society of Biology Education from 1968 to 2017. A total of 1,034 papers were analyzed in terms of the number of papers, research fields, research methodologies, research topics, research subjects, research collaboration. The results indicate that since the Korean Society of Biology Education was established in 1972, there have been twenty presidents. The Korean Society of Biology Education has made an effort to vitalize biology education in Korea by holding the conference twice a year, publishing a journal four times a year, developing curriculums and editing materials, and conducting policy researches. Also, as a result of analyzing papers, research collaboration and the numbers of authors has been increasing and research fields, including interdisciplinary fields, have been conducted evenly. In addition, the diversification of research methodologies and subjects, and the increase in research on students and on teachers, coincides changes in other disciplines and international trends. However, there is a significant difference in terms of percentage when compared to international trends, such as the low percentage of international collaborations and qualitative methods and the high percentage of the teaching characteristics and strategies in research topic. In conclusion, biology education in Korea seems to nearly similarities with research trends in science education, but seems to change a bit later than international trends.
