As biodiversity is rapidly reduced, the need of education program for conserving biodiversity is increasing. To obtain implications for development and operation of biodiversity education programs, we analyzed the program operated by the National Institute of Biological Resources (NIBR) based on the biodiversity content criteria and surveyed 136 participants’ opinion and satisfaction on the program with 15 questions. The results indicated that the contents of NIBR’s biodiversity education program dealt with biodiversity related to economics and ethics, as well as biology which students learn in school science class. However, evolution and classification contents were often treated with a relatively low frequency, which can be leading to biased thinking about biodiversity. Survey results showed that NIBR’s biodiversity education program creates interests in living things and provides more opportunities for experiences than in formal schools. Also results indicated participants who had previously participated at least 5 times in NIBR’s biodiversity education program were recognized more aware of the importance and value of biodiversity than those who did not. Nevertheless, NIBR’s biodiversity education program should be differentiated from other institute’s education program and education contents need to be more specialized in biodiversity.
