During the past 30 years, the Korean economy enjoyed economic growth thanks to the low wages of its labor intensive industry. Over the last few years, however, the Korean economy has been aggravated by the internal problems of the high wage increases and a shortage in industrial technical workforce. At the same time, the external faces have erected the protectionism of barriers to higher technology. As a result, our productivity has dropped and our international competitiveness has been weakened. Consequently the diversification of the nation`s industrial sector has left Korea with the requirement to provide a highly trained industrial workforce and to promote the national power in technology. With this conception, this paper attempts to identify the direction that must be taken to develop technical education system among the overall system and provide the necessary support programs. As the technical high school is the major produce of the industrial technical workforce, the technical educatin should be in accord the industrial demand. At this time, however, the technical high school are not structured to provide the proper educational environment to perform that role. In addition to restructuring the technical high school, the system must be better funded and modified to foster the industry to participate in technical education. After the role of the technical high school is fixed in main educational discipline, it must be necessary for the government to establish technical universities so that technical workers can continue their study at a higher level. From a social point of view, we must treat industrial workers cordially with regard to their wage and social position. Firms must change their method of selecting employees by placing value more the technical qualification than the academic degree. People must develop a more objective view of the value of the occupation as a technical expert and reconcile the traditional goal of the graduation from university
