After the Sewol ferry accident, the Ministry of Education established" safety" as a new content area in the 2015 physical education curriculum and has become an important part of the class. Swimming education in elementary, middle, and high schools has not been properly researched on the safety consciousness of students due to the lack of environmental infrastructure such as learning places, teaching tools, and the lack of professionalism of teachers. In order to solve the problem of water safety, the Administrative Safety Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea promoted the mandatory water safety education and survival swimming education for elementary, middle and high schools as a major task. However, students may preempt negative experiences with water without prior awareness of safety in a special environment such as a swimming pool rather than a school. Therefore, underwater anxiety in swimming activities is mainly caused by fear of failure, difficulty in swimming activities, and fear. The results of the study on the effects of safety consciousness on underwater anxiety and risk perception and the effects of underwater anxiety on risk perception were as follows. First, as a result of a study on the differences in safety consciousness, aquatic anxiety, and risk perception by gender and grade of elementary school students who participated in the survival swimming class according to demographic characteristics, safety consciousness had a significant effect at grade level, and there was a significant effect on gender. No effect was seen. Second, it was found that safety consciousness during participation in survival swimming education of elementary school students had a negative (-) effect on cognitive state anxiety, while safety prevention and safety education had a negative effect on underwater anxiety. Third, it was found that safety consciousness during participation in survival swimming education of elementary school students had a negative (-) effect on safety perception on risk perception and on internal factors in safety prevention. Fourth, it was found that cognitive and physical state anxiety had negative (-) effects both internally and externally in the risk perception of underwater anxiety during participation in survival swimming education of elementary school students.
